Engagement and Participation Research
Cheryl Simrell King holds a M.A. in experimental psychology/psychometrics and a Ph.D. in public administration. She began her professional career as a survey researcher in the econometrics department of the regulatory policy division of a Baby Bell (U.S. West). From there, she moved to Strategic Marketing where she managed research projects for U.S. West companies. After a year as a research analyst for an applied research institute at the University of Colorado at Denver, she began an academic career. She has been teaching and doing applied and theoretical research in public administration for 17 years. Her area of expertise is the connection (or disconnect) between citizens and their governments with a recent interest in the intersections of democratic public service, trust and accountability. She has published articles in public administration journals and is co-author of two books. Her work is widely cited in the U.S. and in other countries. Her applied research covers a variety of topics – she assists citizens, neighborhood groups, nonprofits and governmental organizations as they work toward improving public service by conducting research, facilitating groups and meetings, and assisting in strategic planning and other organizational development efforts.
